In this keynote address, Lindsey takes us on a walk down memory lane, to help us understand why everything we are experiencing right now is "right on time." You are not the one who's burnt out, checked out, and trying to figure out what to do with their Twitter account. However, you and your voice are needed in these times of uncertainty. Harness that power and speak up.

We hope to accommodate all requests as we have for the past several years.

10:45am - 11:15am: IRL Networking How-To
We’re back! After three long years of no in-person networking, the APA has a ton of new faces who have never even attended the IRL APAC. So what should you expect? Join a panel of narrators and a producer with marketing and networking insight as they discuss how to get the best out of your in-person conference experience, especially if this is your first in-person APA event.

11:30am - 12:15pm: Maintaining Your Mental Health
This session is meant to kick off a running theme throughout APAC, with an emphasis on self-care and sharing ways to keep your self-esteem from tanking. Join our panel of successful narrators as they kickstart a discussion of how to avoid self-sabotage in the creative and subjective industry of performance and audio publishing.
Publishing and production is an isolating field, and it can be discouraging when it feels like the only feedback one gets (from proofers and tech checks) feels negative. Even reaching out for positive vibes from our reviews can feel like walking through a minefield whenever we come across a 1-star opinion. We’ve reached out across all segments of our community to collect tips and tricks to stay resilient and avoid negative thought spirals. Hear our panelists discuss their own mental health management techniques, and provide a futuristic perspective for those who are still struggling to “break in” to steady work.
This session will be moderated by Leon Nixon (Award-winning Narrator) and speakers include: Andy Garcia-Ruse (Audiobook Narrator), Hillary Huber (Narrator), Helen Lloyd (Audiobook Narrator and Narrator Coach), Melissa Moran (Audiobook Narrator, Double M Audio LLC), Soneela Nankani (Narrator) and Ann Richardson (Narrator - Her Smooth Voice LLC, Publisher - Great Plains Audiobooks & Narrator/Launching Coach).

1:45pm - 2:30pm: The Future of Production: Home Narration and Studio Production
Joint session for Business & Production tracks
15 years ago most narration was recorded in a studio, with a director. The growth of 13-week contracts and online markets like ACX and Findaway ushered in the age of the home studio. The growth of the audiobook market and the COVID epidemic created an explosion of home studios. Many narrators have always worked from home, engineering themselves.
This session will look at the challenges and opportunities related to this shift, from the perspective of the narrator and the publisher. We will discuss expected technical and editorial standards, quality assurance and project management. These subjects include: self-direction vs. direction-over-internet, defining clear production standards for home studios, audition procedures.
This session will be moderated by Cassandra Medcalf (Narrator/Engineer/Author) and feature Sophie Amoss (Narrator), Chris Mottes (CEO - Hindenburg Systems), Troy Otte (Vice President, Production - Podium Audio) and André Santana (Voice Actor & Audiobook Narrator).

2:45pm - 4:00pm: The Business of Being Creative
Business track session
Standing out in the audio world is becoming more difficult with more content being produced and new publishers racing to market. In this session, you'll learn how others are using innovation to nudge the bar in their favor. From audio originals to Q&As, playlist tie-ins and multi-cast productions, we’ll learn what worked, what flopped, and how you can benefit from others’ trials. Taking a risk is the burden of the creative, but we’ll hopefully help to narrow down the titles one should be creative with: is it the shoo-in bestsellers or the books with more modest expectations that could really use a push? How do you know when an idea should be an Audio original vs. a traditional print path?
This session will be moderated by Danielle D'Orlando (Curator of Audio, Princeton University Press) and features Duane Beeman (Director of Production, Graphic Audio), Carla Herbertson (Co-Founder & Chief Commercial Officer, Small Wardour), Nicole Morano (Senior Director of Communications - Pushkin Industries) and Dan Zitt (Senior Vice President, Content Production, Penguin Random House).
