In 2006, the AudiesĀ® judges developed an award that would allow them to recognize a book, author, publisher or other contributor to the audiobook industry of truly exceptional merit. And so the judges have created the Audiobook Hall of Fame. This honor is presented solely at the discretion of the judges, and may be given to an audiobook with long-lasting impact on the industry, to an author to recognize his or her commitment to audiobooks, or to a publisher for efforts to preserve history in words.

2006 Recipient: The Harry Potter Audiobook Series

The very first member of the Hall of Fame has become a household name. It has enthralled the minds of the young and old, and successfully brought audiobooks and the gifts of our narrators into everyday conversations. In 2006 it had, perhaps more than any other work, garnered unequalled publicity for audiobooks and it has demonstrated how successfully audio can be used to generate pre-release publicity for both the printed books and audiobooks. The efforts behind the production of the work as well as the marketing and publicity of the same were extraordinary.

Author: J.K. Rowling | Narrator: Jim Dale | Publisher: Random House Listening Library

2008 Recipient: The Secret

In 2008 the judges took great pleasure in awarding the Hall of Fame to an audiobook that had been on the audiobook bestseller lists for 17 months, since its release at the end of 2006. The publicity and marketing behind this audiobook undoubtedly created a wealth of new audiobook customers, and will continue to have a positive impact on our industry for years.
